Uses for Super Soft Foam

Homeowners have plenty of options when it comes to replacing the foam in their couches, sofas and chairs. There are many different types of seat foam, with each of them having their own advantages. Depending on your needs or personal preference, you can choose to fill your foam seat with a type of foam that is extremely soft or very stiff.

Super Soft FoamA commonly-used foam for furniture foam replacement is Super Soft foam. As the name implies, it is a very soft type of foam. It has a density of 1.2 pounds per cubic foot and an Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) of 12 pounds. This means that it is very soft and will give easily when pressure is applied to it.

As you can imagine, this might not be ideal if you are looking to replace the seat cushions in your couch or chair. Having a foam that is too soft might lead to you “sinking” into the seat, which eventually becomes uncomfortable and makes it tough for you to stand up. However, there are many other uses for Super Soft foam in furniture. For example, it can be used as a mattress topper above a stiffer foam, or as a mattress for people who are bedridden and need to worry about bed sores.

However, the most common use of Super Soft foam is for seat backs. Because you are leaning back on a seat back instead of sitting on top of them, you want it to have a material that is soft. Super Soft foam provides enough stiffness to be durable while maintaining the soft feel that makes a seat back cushion comfortable.
